Mora Morakniv Survival Knife

History of Frosts Knife Manufacturing, K.J. Erickson and Mora of Sweden

There is more than 300 years experience behind today's modern Frosts knife factory. Knives were already being manufactured during the 17th century in and around the town of Mora, Sweden. Frosts Knivfabrik started more than 100 years ago by Erik Frost, an experienced knife smith in the village of Östnor outside of Mora. His "Mora knives" were soon widely acclaimed not only throughout Sweden, but also abroad. Success was quickly gained through their superior and outstanding sharpness and toughness. Mora, Sweden, the town where the famous Mora knives have been produced since the 1600’s, is now the location of a modern newly formed company, Mora of Sweden, representing the merger of Sweden’s two major knife manufacturers – K. J. Eriksson and Frosts Knife Manufacturing.

It is the 4th generation of knife smiths who now have carried on the traditions in a modern and well planned factory situated on the same site as that from the start in 1891. A clear leader in Scandinavia, Frosts has manufactured knives, which combine the skill of the knife smith with the latest technology and modern competitive manufacturing methods. With over 300 models of knives, Frosts has specialized lines to meet the needs of everyone.

Frosts has been recognized by the Swedish Quality Institute as "...a leader in attaining zero defect programs...combined with reliability, flexibility, and competitiveness..." If you are looking for a high quality, inexpensive knife, you simply cannot go wrong with a Frosts Mora or Mora of Sweden Knife.

Mora Swedish Fire Knife
Mora of Sweden

The Light My Fire Swedish Fire Knife, made by Mora of Sweden, is an outdoor knife with a Swedish FireSteel® fire starter. The Swedish FireKnife is a collaboration between Light My Fire and Mora of Sweden. Mora has made top-notch knives for 120 years.

The Swedish FireSteel is more than just an extremely sharp, flexible and sturdy all-around knife. The handle contains a fire starter which in a survival situation, can save lifes.

The Swedish FireKnife has a blade of hardened Sandvik stainless steel and a handle with a high friction rubber grip. Profile-grinding makes the blade fine enough to ease out splinters and the back of knife has been ground to work perfectly with the Swedish FireSteel®. The Swedish FireSteel® is durable and works equally well when wet.

Swedish FireSteel Instructions:

Remove the protective paint on the new fire-starter with the back of the knife. Then, push the edge of the knife slowly and firmly down the length of fire-starter. The produced Sparks easily ignite a stove, TinderDust, Adventurer Tinder Quick Fire Starter Tabs, BBQ, paper, dry grass, birch bark or any other prepared tinder. Be sure that before you start the process, you have built up a nice little pile of tinder and hold the tip of the fire starter close to, or in, this pile so that the maximum amount of sparks hit the tinder.

In a survival situation, the two most common tools are a knife and a fire starter. They simply can do the most good for someone lost, injured are just having fun in the outdoors. A good knife can help get food, assist with medical needs, help build a shelter and much more. A fire starter helps provide life saving heat, helps start a signal fire, provide protection and warmth, enables one to cook food and much more.
